Founder, Owner & Program Director
After moving to Salmon Arm from Vancouver in 1993, I quickly noticed there were no after-school programs or summer camps, and many families relied on children going home alone after school. Recognizing that need inspired me to open Shuswap Kids Club in 1994, and for the past 32 years I’ve had the privilege of providing licensed school-age child care to families throughout our community.
Before starting Shuswap Kids Club, I gained valuable experience working with school-age children through Parks and Recreation and the YMCA in the Lower Mainland. Those early years helped shape the philosophy that continues to guide our program today.
Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, my childhood was spent outdoors — building forts, climbing trees, riding bikes, exploring, and coming home when the streetlights came on. Those experiences taught me confidence, creativity, independence, and a deep appreciation for nature. My vision has always been to give today’s children the opportunity to experience that same sense of wonder, adventure, and freedom.
At Shuswap Kids Club, we believe childhood should be filled with exploration, imagination, meaningful friendships, and plenty of time outdoors. Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, valued, encouraged to be themselves, and excited to come each day. Creating that environment has been one of my greatest joys!
What began with a small group of children in 1994 has grown into a thriving program. I’ve had the privilege of caring for generations of Shuswap families, with many former children now returning as parents themselves.
