Carol Rogers, Founder, Owner & Program Director at Shuswap Kids Club

Carol Rogers

Founder, Owner & Program Director

After moving to Salmon Arm from Vancouver in 1993, I quickly noticed there were no after-school programs or summer camps, and many families relied on children going home alone after school. Recognizing that need inspired me to open Shuswap Kids Club in 1994, and for the past 32 years I’ve had the privilege of providing licensed school-age child care to families throughout our community.

Before starting Shuswap Kids Club, I gained valuable experience working with school-age children through Parks and Recreation and the YMCA in the Lower Mainland. Those early years helped shape the philosophy that continues to guide our program today.

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, my childhood was spent outdoors — building forts, climbing trees, riding bikes, exploring, and coming home when the streetlights came on. Those experiences taught me confidence, creativity, independence, and a deep appreciation for nature. My vision has always been to give today’s children the opportunity to experience that same sense of wonder, adventure, and freedom.

At Shuswap Kids Club, we believe childhood should be filled with exploration, imagination, meaningful friendships, and plenty of time outdoors. Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, valued, encouraged to be themselves, and excited to come each day. Creating that environment has been one of my greatest joys!

What began with a small group of children in 1994 has grown into a thriving program. I’ve had the privilege of caring for generations of Shuswap families, with many former children now returning as parents themselves.

Becky Jenkins, Assistant Manager at Shuswap Kids Club

Becky Jenkins

Assistant Manager

Becky joined the Shuswap Kids Club team in September 2021 and brings 22 years of experience working with children in licensed child care programs.

As our Assistant Manager, Becky is a trusted leader who helps ensure each day runs smoothly while creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for every child. Her calm, caring nature, positive attitude, and years of experience make her a favourite among both children and families.

Becky is passionate about lifelong learning and has completed extensive professional development in early childhood education, including the BC Early Learning Framework, child development, healthy active play, supporting children’s emotional well-being, understanding childhood anxiety, and fostering learning through music.

She shares our belief that children learn best through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. Becky’s dedication, compassion, and leadership make her an invaluable part of the Shuswap Kids Club family, and we are grateful to have her helping children learn, grow, and thrive every day.

Taylor Wood, Program Leader at Shuswap Kids Club

Taylor Wood

Program Leader

Taylor joined the Shuswap Kids Club team in April 2022 and brings a caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with children.

She completed the Education Assistant Program at Okanagan College and also works as an Education Assistant with School District No. 83, supporting students during the school day. Her experience in both the classroom and our after-school program gives her a strong understanding of children’s individual learning styles and developmental needs.

At Shuswap Kids Club, Taylor leads our Mindful Mondays program, where children explore gratitude, kindness, empathy, and positive character development through engaging discussions and activities. Her warm, encouraging nature helps children feel supported, included, and confident as they build meaningful friendships and important life skills. We are grateful to have Taylor as part of the Shuswap Kids Club family.

Kylie Roy, Program Leader at Shuswap Kids Club

Kylie Roy

Program Leader

Kylie joined the Shuswap Kids Club team in January 2026, but her connection to Kids Club began many years earlier — as one of our own children! Having attended our program as a child, she is now helping create the same fun, welcoming, and memorable experiences she enjoyed.

Kylie is currently completing the Education Assistant Program and her goal is to continue supporting children both in the classroom and here at Shuswap Kids Club. She also brings years of dance experience and has enjoyed teaching children at one of our local dance academies, giving her a wonderful ability to encourage confidence, creativity, and teamwork.

Children are naturally drawn to Kylie’s kind, energetic, and caring personality. She loves building positive relationships and helping every child feel included, supported, and excited to learn through play. We are thrilled to welcome Kylie back to the Shuswap Kids Club family — this time as one of our team members.
